PAC Citywide, January 22, 2001 Partners Against Crime Allocation of PAC Representatives to other Organizations: Partners Against Crime is a volunteer organization relying individual involvement. Many of the people working with the PACs are balancing a job, family life and community involvement. The PAC system is growing and in communities where the PAC is active it is showing tremendous impact. Because of this the PACs are receiving more and more offers for members to be active in other organizations. The PAC leadership realizes the greatest chance of fixing many of the problems is at our individual district levels. Because of the limited resources the PAC leadership has agreed that if the PACs do not have the volunteer resources we will attempt to find a citywide PAC representative to represent all PACs at some of the meetings. This individual will be responsible for creating notes and distributing the information to all PACs. Request for a County Liaison to the District PACs: This request first came about Feb. 2000 at the meeting with the city manager. During that meeting the PAC leadership spoke of the importance of the liaisons positions supplied by the city. It came up again in meetings with the Mayor. The PACs would like the County to supply a County PAC Liaison similar to the Community Liaison Officers of the DPD and the Liaison for the Department of Housing and Community Development. All four districts agree that these individuals have been productive and effective in dealing with community related issues. These liaisons have the jurisdiction and the understanding of the district issues to think in broader perspectives. They have been able to find unique ways to aid the communities in areas of crime prevention and quality of life issues. Their solutions have been targeted at the causes of the problems. All four districts report that liaison positions have been effective in aiding the community in solving problems and reducing citizen frustration with certain conditions. These liaisons have been able to get things done that particular communities have not been able to manager especially when fixing the problem means dealing with more than one city department. These citizen partnerships working with the Durham Police Department and the Department of Housing and Community have produced many improvements in all districts in Durham. The PACs realize that a similar partnership with County could have a powerful effect on dealing with the problems that are County related. Areas of concern for the PACs that a County liaison could help with are as follows; Public Health/ Health Inspections Animal Control Pest Control Sheriff Department Mental Health Social Services Other County Services Clarification on the role of the Durham Businesses Against Crime There was discussion on this topic.
